Abstract

In this paper, a systematic, evidence-based overview of didactic and psychological design principles is provided, which have a significant impact on the learning success of Serious Games. Design criteria are described that relate to the structure of games, the principle of learning through play, interaction regarding usability and playability, as well as motivation with the necessary game incentives. Furthermore, perspectives on the future development of Serious Games are outlined, focusing particularly on the implementation of concepts of adaptive e-learning and AI-supported learning.
