Knowledge Management in Nuclear Waste Disposal: Approaches and Challenges in Germany

Abstract

Knowledge management (KM) in the field of nuclear waste disposal in Germany was largely neglected in all predecessor organisations and existed mostly within a loose framework of a substandard data archiving system. A reliable KM structure was only established since 2019. The KM team has gradually established various KM methods and tools to meet the current and future needs of colleagues. KM work is, and continues to be, marked by multitude challenges such as an ongoing major company reorganisation for the last years. Reduced KM workforce, loosening interest on KM and the longtime awaited, still missing implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) are making the work increasingly difficult.
