Abstract

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) describes a broad interdisciplinary approach to education and careers that enclose these four fields. STEM fields are highly influential in driving innovation, technological advancements, and economic growth. For decades, women have faced judgment when pursuing careers beyond their household duties.  As the world continues to evolve, it is becoming increasingly evident that greater female participation is essential in addressing a better future. However, in the era of the internet and artificial intelligence, the biggest gender gap can be seen in the fields of Information Technology (IT) and Computer Science. This article aims to closely examine the representation of women in STEM areas, in general, and IT and Computer Science, in particular, while examining the underlying causes of the pronounced gender gap. It will also investigate the factors contributing to this separation to provide strategies and actions that can successfully help close the gap.
