Growing social and environmental uncertainty—marked by economic volatility, technological change, skills shortages, institutional pressure, and shifting social expectations—has posed new challenges to companies’ ability to maintain performance, adapt, and remain sustainable. In this context, this article presents a conceptual analysis of the role of transformational leadership in building organizational resilience and improving business performance in Portugal. Based on a critical and integrative review of the literature, it is argued that transformational leadership contributes to more adaptive organizational cultures through shared vision, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. The proposed model suggests that organizational resilience plays a mediating role, translating leadership into observable capabilities of anticipation, absorption, response, adaptation, and renewal. The article also identifies explanatory mechanisms, such as sensemaking, organizational learning, trust, employee engagement, innovation, and resource reconfiguration, as well as complementary conditions associated with digital capabilities, information quality, management system maturity, and skilled human capital. The study contributes to integrating leadership, resilience, and performance into a conceptual framework applicable to the Portuguese business context.
